Thirty-three years ago in 1984, 12 families with a passion for the Gospel came together and started Onnuri Community Church. They dreamed of becoming a church that was illustrated in the Book of Acts 2,000 years ago. This dream led to planting more than eight campus churches in South Korea including the Seobinggo main campus, and more than 25 vision churches in the US, China, Oceania, and Japan, and to sending over 1,200 missionaries to 59 countries.

Onnuri Community Church along with Duranno and CGNTV inspires Christians and pastors to dream of an Acts-like church, introducing influential global Christian leaders such as Pastor Bill Hybels and Pastor Jim Cymbala to Korean Christians, and spreading powerful
waves of the Holy Spirit in Japan through Love Sonata.

Rev. Young-Jo Ha is a graduate of Konkuk University, Presbyterian University and Theological Seminary. He received an honorary degree in Literature from Biola University, an honorary degree in Theology from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and an honorary doctorate from Myongji University. He served as the senior pastor of Onnuri Community Church, chairman of the board of directors at Jeonju University, director of Handong Global University, president of Torch Trinity Graduate School of Theology, head of Duranno Publishing, and chairman of CGNTV.

The very church of the Book of Acts
When I think about the Church, I get full without eating and excited even when tired. Despite the depth of life’s pains and hardships, when I think about the Church, I feel happy. The Church is the key, the way and the spirit that moves the world. So when the Church becomes corrupt, the world becomes corrupt. On the other hand, when the Church is alive, the world is full of hope.

I dreamed of the church described in the Book of Acts when planting Onnuri Church. Before starting Onnuri Church, I served as an assistant pastor at Mapo Church. I had also been trained in a seminary by a pastor from Seoul who was like a strict seonbi, a traditional
Confucian scholar from olden days. Then, unexpectedly, I came to lead a “celebrity church” where I served for seven years and was able to expand my horizons. There I experienced ministry 9at the center of pop culture.

After some time, my health deteriorated. I had to give up serving the church and went to England. My plan was to get some rest and study while there. But once again, unexpectedly, I came across Ealing Church, an immigrant church in England, and ministered there. I was able to share in the joys and sorrows of immigrants and Korean expatriates of trading companies who were living lonely lives in an immigrant community.

England, to me, was like a spiritual cradle. It was there where I met a missions organization and spiritual giants who determined the direction of my ministry. During my first year in England, I received blessings from London Bible College, an evangelical and academic school that planted in me a seed of hope for the Gospel and for academic study.

In the second year, I experienced a year of blessings at a missions organization called WEC, Worldwide Evangelization for Christ. I was trained with Jae-hwan Lee, a missionary, and president of Come Mission. I can say that the foundation of Onnuri Church’s mission ministry was established there. Also, the fellowship with All Nations Bible College expanded my view on mission work.

During the third and final year, which was perhaps the most inspiring, I met Rev. John Stott at the London Institute and learned about the problems of modern society and how those issues relate to the ministry. Also, I met Rev. Jim Graham who led a Holy Spirit ministry. I learned about the powerful and beautiful work of the Holy Spirit from him.
